Forward Thinking welcomes deal ending Palestinian prisoner hunger strikes

Forward Thinking welcomes the deal signed on Monday 14th May that ended a nearly month-long hunger strike by approximately 2000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. The Director, Oliver McTernan, was in Gaza last Thursday where he met with a number of prisoner families who were on sympathy hunger strike. He also met with Israeli officials to discuss the situation. Oliver writes: "Let's hope that this deal can mark a new beginning in addressing some of the serious challenges facing the region. In a climate of 'zero' trust it is difficult to see how any progress can be made towards a durable and just peace. A genuine dialogue in search of real solutions and aimed at promoting mutual understanding and respect is the only way forward." Pictured: Oliver meets prisoner families on sympathy hunger strike in Gaza.
