The Deputy Director and the Nyon Process Manager attend 'Victoria and Abdul: The Story of a Queen and her Muslim Confidante', London, May 2012

The talk, organised by the Cordoba Foundation as part of the Cordoba Heritage Series, was given by Shrabani Basu, author and correspondent for the Kolkata-based Ananda Bazar Patrika Group. It told the story of Abdul Karim, a servant who, in 1887, was presented to Queen Victoria as a gift for her Golden Jubilee. Karim immediately caught the Queen's eye and was rapidly promoted and honoured with titles, land and houses. He advised her on Indian politics and soon became the lonely monarch's closest companion.
