The Director visits Israel and Gaza, 9th -13th March 2014
Oliver held a series of meetings in Israel and the Gaza Strip from the 9th-13th of March. While in Gaza, Oliver gave a talk to forty civil servants that focused on issues of governance. Oliver's speech explored the challenges of building of "minimum consensus" between groups that inhabit the same space but hold fundamentally different political worldviews. Whilst recognising the difficulties that this could pose, Oliver argued it was ultimately necessary for political stability and for the effective functioning of state institutions. In Israel, Oliver was present in the Knesset when British Prime Minister David Cameron made his speech on the 12th of March. Oliver had been invited to attend the speech by Yehiel Hilik Bar, the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset.
