Oliver McTernan attends the 2nd Berlin Foreign Policy Forum, 22nd-23rd October 2012
Oliver attended this forum, which discussed some of the central issues facing German and European foreign policymakers - What role should and can Europe play in international politics, and how should it respond to the “Asia-Pacific Century”? What will happen to the Transatlantic Partnership? And how should we assess the resurgence of political Islam in the Arab Spring?The forum was opened by the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Guido Westerwelle. Also in attendance were the British Foreign Secretary, William Hague, the Finnish Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, Alexander Stubb, and the German Minister of Defence, Dr Thomas de Maizière. A lively exchange took place in particular with Freedom and Justice Party advisor (and Nyon Process participant) Gehad El Haddad concerning developments in Egypt.
