Middle East Monitor annual conference: The Illusive Peace, Oslo two decades on, 12th September

On September 12th, Forward Thinking attended the Middle East Monitor's Annual Conference in London. The conference marked the 20th anniversary of the Oslo Accords and  brought together a host of international key players, political negotiators, diplomats, and academics for discussions. The conference came at a particularly pertinent time, as once again Israeli and Palestinian negotiators are engaged in talks aimed at resolving the conflict. The conference explored several themes including: the historical context of Oslo; the political legacies of the Accord; why the Accords failed to achieve peace; the political realities that might impede peace today and if there is a greater role for the EU in the peace process. The event provided a useful opportunity for Forward Thinking to hear a wide-range of views and opinions on the current situation in Israel/Palestine. Oliver was also asked to act as a moderator for one of the conference's sessions.
