On the 20th April 2016 Forward Thinking convened a roundtable to give opportunity for interested media figures including journalists, academics, editorial advisors, legal professionals and parliamentarians, including Dominic Grieve QC MP, Chair of the Intelligence and Security Committee, to discuss the impact of Section 19 and 38B, Terrorism Act 2000, on journalistic enquiry with David Anderson QC, the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation.Holistic discussions focussed on the tensions between journalistic enquiry and the need for more clarity and guidance for journalists, afforded within the provisions outlined in the above legislation. Individuals present raised concerns that investigative journalists have actively avoided certain lines of interest when approaching stories on terrorism. Delegates also raised issues of the provisions within legislation, which  have led to editorial decisions to stop stories being published, limiting more nuanced and informed debate within the press.
