Exploring the Implications of the Delta Variant, 6th September 2021

The Dr-2-Dr initiative convened online on the 7th of September to discuss the Delta Variant of Covid-19 and to share experiences and analysis on best practices towards tackling the pandemic. Participants included leading health professionals from Europe and the Gulf-MENA region, who agreed that vaccination is the most important way forward in the Pandemic and an effective way of cutting down deaths and hospitalisations from the Delta variant. They urged the sharing of vaccinations by wealthy countries before giving third doses domestically and warned of the consequences of vaccine hesitancy, calling for education on local, national and international levels. While vaccine hesitancy exists everywhere, participants remain confident in the vaccination, noting that there has never been such intense scrutiny on the effects of a vaccination.
