Sharing Palestinian perspectives on the challenges in Gaza, Cairo, 6 March 2024
On 6 March, we convened a conference in Cairo bringing together participants from Gaza, Ramallah, Egypt, and the international community. The aim was to provide a space for the voices of those with an understanding of the complex challenges in Gaza to be heard to inform post-ceasefire efforts to address these challenges. The conference was held in partnership with the SHAF Centre for Conflict Analysis and Future Studies, under the auspices of the League of Arab States, and was attended by participants from Belgium, Egypt, France, Finland, Ireland, Italy, the Occupied Palestinian Territories (Gaza and the West Bank), Spain, Switzerland, Türkiye, the UK, the US, as well as the UN, the EEAS, the League of Arab States, and the Order of Malta.
Participants widely recognised the need for an immediate ceasefire. They explored the enormous challenges, both immediate and ongoing, facing the 2.3 million people who live in Gaza, and their urgent needs, especially food, shelter, and medicine. They also discussed the need for prompt action in restoring the economic, medical, legal, and educational systems. Participants expressed a commitment to continuing efforts to address these challenges.
