Principles for effective negotiation - online workshop, Gaza, 29th June 2020

On Monday 29th June 2020, Forward Thinking and House of Wisdom Institute facilitated an online negotiations workshop with Professor Alain Lempereur.

Negotiation is necessary for organisations to thrive and is integral within individual and professional lives. In Gaza, a high-level group of 36 ministerial officials from various departments met to identify areas for improving individual skills and to develop a negotiation course plan.

A series of immersive practical workshops will now be developed to enable participants to acquire the critical negotiation skills and respond to identified themes, including: economic development, accountability in politics and addressing political division. The course will foster leaders’ personal development and growth. Equipping leaders with such skills will help them deal with crises, reach successful outcomes and achieve agreements. This meeting was part of Forward Thinking’s work to explore capacity-building opportunities for political leaders in Palestine.

Professor Lempereur is a professor and director of the Conflict Resolution and Coexistence Program at Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management. He is an affiliated faculty and executive committee member of the Program on Negotiation (PON) at Harvard Law School. Over the last 25 years Alain has conducted consultative missions and training for several international organisations including UN agencies, NGOs, and national governments on conflict reconciliation.
