PRESS RELEASE - FORWARD THINKING and the Egyptian Presidential Elections
London, Wednesday 23rd MayEgyptians go to the polls today and tomorrow to cast votes in the country’s first competitive presidential elections. Two candidates, Dr Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh and the Freedom and Justice Party’s (FJP) Dr Mohammed Morsi, are among the frontrunners.Over the past eight years Dr Aboul Fotouh has been an active member of Forward Thinking's global dialogue group - the Nyon Process. The Muslim Brotherhood and, more recently, the FJP are also active members of this group. This provides us with unique and intimate insight into two of the key candidates in the Egyptian presidential elections.Dr Abdel Moneim Aboul Fotouh has been a part of Forward Thinking’s dialogue with Middle Eastern political activists since 2004. Forward Thinking first brought Dr Aboul Fotouh to speak at a seminar on political Islam in the House of Commons in 2007, and then facilitated his visit in June 2011, where he discussed the situation in Egypt and his political programme after recently announcing his decision to run for the Egyptian presidency.In March 2012, Forward Thinking also facilitated meetings for the Freedom and Justice Party’s first official delegation to the UK, arranging meetings for the delegation with UK media, parliamentarians and the public.Forward Thinking continue to partake in active dialogue with Dr Aboul Fotouh, the Muslim Brotherhood and the FJP and we would be available to comment on the Egyptian presidential elections.
