Oliver McTernan moderates a working dinner on Instability in the MENA-Gulf Region, World Economic Forum, 18th January 2017

On the 18th of January Oliver McTernan moderated a working dinner at the World Economic Forum in Davos exploring initiatives to address instability in the MENA-Gulf region. This region - is currently undergoing an unprecedented period of political, economic and social change - which is at the centre of many of these disruptive trends including extremism, terrorism and populism.

These new realities carry an urgent question: how will the MENA region navigate towards stability with all these challenges in the new world order and how can sustainable stability, security, inclusive economic development and protection of refugees be achieved in such unpredictable times?"

H.E. Timo Soini, Finnish Foreign Minister opened the discussion sharing lessons from the Helsinki Process - a process of dialogue that was successful in enabling co-existence and co-operation in a deeply divided period of recent history. The new Foreign Minister of Jordan, H.E. Ayman Al Safadi, also gave a key note speech at the event, highlighting the challenges facing the region and the emphasising the need for coexistence.
