Meeting with the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, 25 November 2024

Oliver McTernan and Jordan Morgan recently held a meeting with Rabbi Kalman Meir Ber, the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, marking the Chief Rabbi’s first official meeting.

Despite the ongoing conflict, Rabbi Ber expressed his steadfast commitment to fostering connections between faiths and cultures. The discussion explored the long-standing relationship between Judaism and Islam in the region, with a particular focus on historical periods of coexistence. A key example was the "Golden Age" under Islamic rule in Spain, a time recognised for the flourishing of the Jewish community in religious, social, and economic life.

The conversation also delved into the legacy of Moses Maimonides (Rambam). Maimonides, a towering figure in Jewish history, was equally celebrated by Muslims, who knew him as Ubayd Allah.

The meeting underscored the importance of interfaith dialogue in promoting stability across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Both parties agreed on the need to enhance collaboration and mutual understanding among faith communities to address shared challenges.

Forward Thinking remains dedicated to building on this exchange to contribute to regional stability and coexistence.
