Insights on recent developments in Israel, a discussion with MK Aida Touma-Sliman, 13th May, 2021

On Thursday 13th May, Forward Thinking convened an online panel discussion with Joint List MK Aida Touma-Sliman.As a prominent  figure within Israel’s Palestinian Israeli community, Touma-Sliman shared her perspectives on the recent tensions linked to the threatened eviction and dispossession of Palestinian families from their homes in the predominantly Palestinian neighbourhood Sheikh Jarrah, the clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police within the Al-Aqsa mosque and the subsequent eruption of violence between Israel and Gaza.Touma-Sliman also discussed some of the challenges facing her community in the context of the rising civil unrest in mixed Jewish and Arab cities within Israel. She highlighted possible steps to prevent further escalation of the current conflict and civil unrest, as well as potential solutions needed to help reduce tensions, and begin a process of cross-communal reconciliation.
