FT Online: Discussing Proposed Judicial Reforms and Unfolding Crisis in Israel with Ariel Bulshtein, 11 May 2023
Widespread protests have taken place in Israel in response to controversial judicial reforms proposed by the government. Plans for the proposed reforms have been postponed but the protests have continued and it remains uncertain how the legislation will progress. On the 11th of May, we convened an online meeting with Ariel Bulshtein, who is a serving Israeli attorney, a senior columnist for “Israel Hayom" daily- Israel's most widely distributed newspaper- and the former adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Mr Buhlstein provided his unique perspectives on the protests, the proposed reforms, the domestic political realities facing the Likud party, the conflict with the Palestinians, and how domestic pressures in Israel could influence future developments.Parliamentarians, high-level officials, and policy makers from Europe and the Gulf-MENA region attended.
