Forward Thinking Visit to Nablus to Discuss the Crisis in the West Bank, 25 September 2024

Oliver McTernan and Jordan Morgan recently traveled to Nablus, West Bank, for a key meeting with Dr. Sameer Abu Eiseh, former Palestinian Minister of Planning, Dr. Nasser Shaer, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, and Dr. Raid Nairat, an academic and political figure.

The meeting addressed the deteriorating situation in the West Bank amidst escalating violence. The discussion focused on the growing fears of increased Israeli military operations and settler violence, which continue to deeply impact Palestinian communities. Key topics included the effects of settlement expansion, home demolitions, and the displacement of Palestinian families, as well as the severe restrictions on freedom of movement due to checkpoints and roadblocks.

The conversation highlighted the challenges facing the Palestinian economy, healthcare, and education, with a particular emphasis on the frustration and hopelessness felt by younger Palestinians. The leaders also discussed Palestinian governance, political reform, and the wide-reaching impacts of Israeli policies on Palestinian society.
