Discussing forthcoming political and media literacy with community groups

Throughout October Forward Thinking met London based community and faith groups to discuss forthcoming political and media literacy workshops within the UK ‘Building Bridges’ Programme. Discussions with Forward Thinking staff and workshop trainers focused on the importance of giving young individuals opportunities, and the confidence, to engage in politics. Platforms must also be provided or created to ensure youth voices are heard at the national policy maker level. The role of the media was also examined; in particular, the treatment of Muslims in the media vis-a-vis other religious communities. These conversations served to underline central issues affecting young Muslims whilst also highlighting the desperate need for confidence and capacity building activities for young people.
