Forward Thinking hold roundtable workshops with youth activists and senior politicians in Tunisia, 2nd-5th November 2015

Forward Thinking's Julian Weinberg and and Harry Higginson travelled to Tunis from 2nd to the 5th November 2015. They successfully held roundtable workshops with youth activists from across the political spectrum, providing a space to discuss the economic challenges facing the country. Discussions covered a range of issues including: the need to increase young Tunisians access to finance, so they can launch their own businesses and/or projects; the need to rebalance the economy away from tourism and towards other sectors; and the benefits/disadvantages of the proposed national reconciliation law. At the roundtables, the young activists were also joined by senior politicians, thereby creating a space for an intergenerational conversation on national challenges. It also provided an opportunity for senior politicians to begin listening to the concerns of a younger generation and their perspectives on economic reforms. In addition to the roundtables, Forward Thinking also held bilateral meetings with a diverse range of politicians to discuss the current political situation in the country and the work of we complete. This included a meeting with Taieb Baccouche, Foreign Minister of Tunisia.
