Forward Thinking Fellows Workshop with Sir Jeremy Greenstock: “Foreign Policy and Conflict Resolution: Coming off the Rails”

On July 13th Forward Thinking hosted a workshop with Sir Jeremy Greenstock, Diplomat and Former Ambassador to the United Nations, and Forward Thinking Fellows, on “Foreign Policy and Conflict Resolution: Coming off the Rails.” The discussion brought together Fellows with experience in Israel, Iraq, Libya, Palestine and Tunisia, and working in fields including policing, journalism, political activism, and data-driven approaches to countering violence extremism. The discussion explored the trends towards nationalism and protectionism, and the weakening of classic conflict resolution mechanisms. In a context of hyper-globalisation and hyper-connection, individualisation and fading, out-dated institutions present a challenge of how to manage the forces that outpace traditional frameworks of governance, pulling to the extreme, and how to articulate the value of investing in difficult relationships and the collective.
