Finsbury Park Mosque Annual Interfaith Iftar

On the 29th May 2018, Jordan Morgan, UK Programme Manager, was invited to attend the annual Finsbury Park Mosque (FPM) Interfaith Iftar.Led by Mohammed Khozbar, FPM Chairman, the iftar was also supported by: Jeremy Corbyn MP; Councillor Richard Watts, Leader of Islington Council; Dr Iain Raphael, Detective Chief Superintendent of Metropolitan Police and a diverse group of faith, non-faith and civil society organisations. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the successes and difficulties faced since the horrific and cowardly terror attack on innocent worshippers in Finsbury Park on 14th June 2017. By their very nature such tragedies are traumatic and difficult. However, it was highlighted that local resilience to national crisis is founded upon: pre-existing trusted relationships across different sectors within the community; dynamic, empowered community leadership, and collaborative  decision making with the authorities. Without these essential foundations the support for impacted individuals, families, and the community more broadly, would have been less effective. However, rather than sowing the seeds of division, the attack has engendered a palpable sense of inter- and intra-community solidarity, understanding  and trust- a true hallmark of an inclusive city as diverse as London.
