Escalating tensions in the Gulf-MENA region: an Iranian perspective, 13 August 2024

Responding to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran and an increasing risk of full-scale regional conflict, Forward Thinking convened an online meeting on 13 August. The purpose of the meeting was to hear the Iranian perspective on recent developments in the region, notably the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

The discussion was led by two Iranian academics from the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) in Tehran, the main think tank of the Iranian foreign ministry. Senior foreign ministry officials, parliamentarians, academics, and journalists from Belgium, Finland, France, Iraq, Ireland, the Order of Malta, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, the UN, and the USA participated.
