Discussing the need for inclusive dialogue in diplomacy, at the Foreign Policy and Security Conference 2024, 26-27 April

On Friday 26 April, Oliver was invited to give a keynote speech for the opening ceremony of the Foreign Policy and Security Conference 2024 at King’s College London. The ceremony was organised by students of KCL, and was attended by students and guests working in the field of diplomacy, including the Finnish Ambassador to the UK.

Oliver discussed the need for inclusive dialogue in diplomacy, with reference to his own experiences of historical changes in the dynamics of international relations. He emphasised the need for trust, transparency, and integrity to enable these dialogues to take place, and to facilitate change with the ultimate aim of saving lives.

The day after, Oliver spoke on a panel discussion entitled ‘The Middle East Peace Process: Progress and Setbacks’. The discussion focused on developments in the region, including the re-establishment of diplomatic ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and the challenges facing durable peace across the Gulf-MENA.
