Covid-19 and Jordan – Doctor to Doctor workshop – 16th July 2020

On the 16th of July, Forward Thinking in collaboration with the Sovereign Order of Malta, held the first Doctor to Doctor dialogue meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, health professionals, academics and doctors from Jordan. At this meeting, we were fortunate to also have medical experts from Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre who shared their insights in combatting Covid-19, as well as colleagues from Italy, Germany and the United States.

Doctors involved in containing the virus across Jordan shared their experience with mechanisms of tracking and tracing, treatment protocols as well as the effectiveness quarantine. As of July 2020, Jordan recorded 1,201 cases of Covid-19, 10 deaths and 1,016 recovered patients. 9 hospitals across the country, including private, public and academic laboratories have been harnessed to receive suspected and positive cases of Covid-19, as well conduct PCR tests.

Health care experts from Europe and the region reiterated that in their experience the only effective tools for containing the virus is strict social distancing and widespread use of protective clothing, namely the use of masks.

Colleagues from Europe, the Middle East and the United States praised Jordan’s efforts at combating Covid-19.

This meeting forms part of the Doctor-to-Doctor platform that Forward Thinking and the Sovereign Order of Malta established in response to the Covid-19 pandemic to facilitate an exchange of expertise and support health professionals combat, contain, prevent and treat the virus.
