Between January and February, Oliver and Jordan held meetings with diverse members of our networks in Ramallah, East Jerusalem, Doha, and Cairo. While there, they heard a range of perspectives on issues including the challenges and opportunities for building a unified Palestinian political vision, the impact of the new US administration under President Donald Trump, and potential post-conflict arrangements in Gaza.
In meetings with Palestinian ministers in Ramallah, discussions focused on the complex security and political challenges facing Gaza. In East Jerusalem, Oliver and Jordan met with the PASSIA team, who shared their assessment of recent developments in the conflict and emerging regional dynamics.
Evacuated Gazans in Cairo discussed Palestinian leadership, the future governance of Gaza, as well as the role of the international community and neighbouring Arab countries.
While in Cairo, Oliver and Jordan also met with the SHAF Centre for Conflict Analysis and Future Studies to discuss the Egyptian position on developments in the region and to prepare for the Cairo conference, which took place at the end of February. The conference addressed the immediate priorities for restoring the sectors essential to the social fabric of Gaza.
Oliver participated as a panel speaker at The Second International Conference “From Religious Freedom to Religious Responsibility”: Peacemaking in a Destabilised World in Doha, from 18-20 February. The conference was organised by the Doha International Center for Interfaith Dialogue in collaboration with Multi-Faith Neighbours Network, and under the patronage of the Prime Minsiter and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, H.E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. It was attended by around 200 Muslim, Christian, and Jewish leaders.
